Overview

Xbox marked its 25th anniversary with the announcement of the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, a collector-focused console designed as a tribute to the original Xbox.

The standout feature was its nostalgic OG Xbox green styling, immediately linking the console to Microsoft's first-generation hardware. Each X25 console was also set to be individually numbered, although Xbox had not confirmed the total production quantity at the time of the pre-order call.

House of Resell expected pricing somewhere between £759.99 and £899.99, with rumours pointing towards the upper end of that range. The console was also expected to have much tighter distribution than the accompanying anniversary controllers, potentially remaining exclusive to Xbox's own store.

There was no established resale market before pre-orders opened, but the comparison with previous anniversary gaming hardware made the release particularly interesting. House of Resell therefore rated it 0/5 risk at the pre-order stage, primarily because payment was not expected until shortly before the 13 November release and free returns provided another layer of protection.

Breaking Down the Flip

The X25 celebrated 25 years of Xbox with an individually numbered console styled around the original Xbox's iconic green identity.

Expected retail sat around £759.99-£899.99, although the final UK price had not been confirmed ahead of pre-orders.

Previous limited anniversary consoles showed the potential collector demand for scarce gaming hardware, although Xbox demand could not be assumed to match PlayStation.

With payment expected shortly before dispatch and free returns available, House of Resell rated the initial pre-order opportunity 0/5 risk.

Final Thoughts

The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition had many of the ingredients collectors look for: anniversary significance, nostalgic design, individual numbering and potentially restricted distribution.

The obvious comparison was Sony's previous anniversary hardware, which produced substantial resale premiums. However, that comparison needed to be treated carefully. Xbox's current collector demand, the X25's considerably higher expected retail price and the still-unknown production quantity meant there was no guarantee of similar multiples.

The biggest advantage was therefore the structure of the pre-order itself. With payment reportedly not being taken until around 10 days before release and free returns available, buyers had an opportunity to secure allocation first and evaluate the secondary market closer to November.

The unknown production number remains the biggest variable. If Xbox confirms a genuinely small-numbered run, scarcity could become the main resale catalyst. If production is much larger than expected, the £759.99-£899.99 entry price could restrict upside.

For August, the sensible play was simple: secure the pre-order while financial exposure was limited, then make the final hold-or-cancel decision once supply and resale demand became clearer.
