Overview

Metallica brought an exclusive M72 World Tour Pop-Up to London, offering city-specific merchandise including a splatter vinyl, numbered poster, exclusive T-shirt and fan card.

The strongest targets were the London Splatter Vinyl and M72 London Poster, both retailing for £50. Limited quantities were released each day, creating immediate scarcity, while the band's enormous collector following provided a ready secondary market.

The initial House of Resell prediction of £150-£200 proved accurate. On 2 July, the Splatter Vinyl recorded eBay sales between approximately £149.99 and £171.40, while London posters sold for £146.30, £149.14 and as high as £185. Exclusive T-shirts also generated sales around £65-£72 against their £40 retail price.

Breaking Down the Flip

The £50 London Splatter Vinyl produced multiple sales around £150-£171, roughly tripling retail before selling costs.

The £50 M72 London Poster achieved approximately £146-£185, with randomly distributed foil versions offering even greater upside.

The £40 London-exclusive T-shirt sold around £65-£72, providing a smaller but still profitable alternative to the main collectables.

Daily stock increased supply throughout the pop-up, making early sales particularly important as additional vinyl and posters entered the market.

Final Thoughts

The Metallica London Pop-Up delivered exactly the kind of scarcity-driven in-store opportunity collectors can create. The strongest items were clearly the £50 Splatter Vinyl and £50 London Poster, both of which generated roughly £150+ sales immediately after release.

The poster also carried a hidden bonus: randomly distributed foil variants, which were expected to command substantially higher prices and therefore needed to be checked before listing.

The £40 T-shirt remained profitable but offered considerably less upside, making the vinyl and poster the clear priorities. With more stock released throughout the pop-up, Day One offered the strongest opportunity to capitalise on initial scarcity and lock in profit before supply increased.
