Whisky Reselling
Contents
What is whisky reselling?
As the title states, its reselling whisky. Imagine it as reselling on eBay but for whisky reselling we use different platforms which are detailed below.
Whisky's are VERY profitable, we will alert you when the next Whisky drop it. You need to be 18 years of age, if not use a family/friends details.
Airports/ Travel retail stores
*all of this section also applies to any friends or family who are travelling, ask them to keep an eye out for you*
This is more for if you’re from the UK and are going on holiday, or spend a lot of time going through airports for work etc. The tax free travel retail stores you find in London and glasgow airports often have good stock allocations of limited whisky. There’s too many to list but if you’re going through any large airport have a look through the brands like Macallan, Ardbeg, Yamazaki, Bowmore, Laphroaig, Lagavulin etc and check resale value if you’re unsure. There is sometimes stock in smaller airports too so check if you’re going through any.
If you are returning to the UK from an EU country this is your allowance;
4 litres of spirits over 22% alcohol = 5 full size bottles (750ml) + 5 miniature bottles (50ml)
10 litres of spirits over 22% alcohol - but you must pay excise duty at £10.66 per litre on every litre. Once you go over 4 litres, your allowance is gone and you pay duty on everything.
I’ve know people who’ve bought 20 bottles through forgetting that there was a limit and nothing happened but If this happens and they pull you to the side, apologise and say you’ll pay whatever tax is owed on them. They may also confiscate the spirits.
If you are returning to the UK from a non-EU country you are allowed only 1 litre of spirits over 22%
If you’re ever going through Heathrow Terminal 5 have a look at some recent Macallan sales before you go to the Macallan boutique store, if you see something profitable, buy it. As of right now they have a full 007 series in a display case that will get sold at some point, they frequently have the smooth arabica travel retail box in stock also. The limit is 1 per person. The staff here aren’t a fan of scalpers. If you make it obvious you’re buying it to flip they may refuse sale on single purchase limit bottles. They also backdoor and reserve bottles for people they know well so it’s worth trying to build a relationship with them if you’re going through T5 alot.
There are more Macallan Boutique stores around the world in major airports.
Airport Looping
There are also opportunities to loop airports in the EU. If you live here or are going to be there for a few weeks or longer - Certain airports like Barcelona, Schipol, Rome and many others offer super cheap one way flights to neighboring countries, sometimes as low as £15. This means you’re able to use the ticket, check in, go through security, buy the whisky and walk out of the airport. Repeat. This sounds strange but it’s pretty normal for a small percentage of all passengers to not board the flight after check in.
The only problem may arise if your destination is a non-EU country, if you get caught leaving the airport after purchasing anything in a duty free store in this scenario, it’s a certain type of tax avoidance.
Do not let this put you off, Airport travel stores in the EU are not actually duty free, it’s illegal to sell duty free items in the EU. It’s only a technicality if you’re boarding pass is for a destination country outside of the EU.
Local Stores
Go on google and search for whisky/ wine/ liquor stores within x miles of your house and have a look for some bottles. Get talking to the shop owner and take it from there, maybe say that you’re after something that’s recently released because a friend bought you the last bottle in the series as a present and you enjoyed it. Not many store owners like resellers, but if you can get a business relationship, maybe helping them secure some allocations for retail + £xxx and they will help you get some allocations for retail + £xxx in return.

MaltDAQ
Overview
MALTDAQ is a new way of buying and selling whisky which works on a Bid / Ask principle. Buyers create Bids – signalling to the MALTDAQ marketplace how much they are willing to pay for a particular bottle. Sellers create Asks to indicate how much they are hoping to sell a particular bottle for. When a Bid equals an Ask the sale can take place.
MALTDAQ displays the Bids and Asks for each whisky in a transparent way – buyers can see the minimum price sellers would sell for; sellers can see the highest price buyers will pay at any one time.
Selling Fees
Each sellers fee is unique to each sale and can be seen when posting your ASK amount. The fees associated with MaltDAQ include Sellers commission, Delivery / Bottle collection and VAT. Once sold MALTDAQ will arrange collection of the whisky from you within 2 working days.
