What is NFT whitelisting?

For NFTs, being on a whitelist means that your crypto wallet address has been pre-approved for an upcoming NFT launch.

What are the benefits of NFT whitelisting?

For collectors/investors

• An NFT whitelist is the most common method NFT project creators use to reward their community. A gas war is prevented by allowing loyal fans to mint before the public (usually 24 hours before).

• Most of the time, being on the whitelist also means that the mint price is cheaper than the public mint price. Sometimes, being on the whitelist means you get a free NFT.

• The most important benefit to NFT collectors is that being on the whitelist means you are guaranteed a spot to mint, unless the whitelist has been overallocated.

What are the benefits of NFT whitelisting?

For project creators

There are dozens of NFT projects launching weekly. How can creators or artists capture attention? Whitelisting early supporters is a great way to do it.

• These early supporters are now financially motivated to stay engaged in the community and promote the project to new people.

• It's a great way to incentivize NFT influencers to promote a project to their audience without paying huge upfront marketing fees.

How do you get on a whitelist?

1) Find a project before launch. This is the most crucial step! You need to find a project before it becomes popular. A lot of NFT projects now launch on Twitter and post sneak peeks of the art to gauge interest and, if done correctly, can create an insane amount of FOMO. You can also use Alpha Groups/DAOs, Twitter, or websites that list upcoming projects.

2) Join the NFT project's Discord group. Once inside the project’s Discord server, you can do a few things. First, look for the channel named “announcements” and see what they have posted. If it is not listed in announcements, look for a channel titled “whitelist” or “allowlist,” etc. There is no one set way that projects will organize their Discord, but they usually will have a channel specifically for whitelists. Your last option is to ask fellow members of the group. I would recommend you dig through all the channels before asking others. There is nothing worse than someone who just joined the server asking questions that have already been answered in the announcements or other clearly labeled channels. You may also be able to get whitelisted via giveaways in known NFT projects on that specific network. Example: Sol = Mad Lads. ETH = Bored Ape Yacht Club.

3) Each project will establish its unique procedures or criteria for whitelisting. In my experience, these methods have included inviting others, actively engaging in online discussions to gain status, winning giveaways, or submitting fan art. Exercise caution. It's essential to have confidence in the project because pursuing a whitelist spot through Discord activity can be draining. Remain vigilant against scammers who may use unofficial links or direct messages within these Discord servers.

Presales

NFT presales are earned in a similar manner by being qualified or selected to participate. Usually, presales will be set at the lowest price possible, giving buyers an advantage on the secondary market or a lower entry price for a long-term hold. Please make sure you do your research on projects offering presales, as sometimes you may have to wait 3-6+ months before the project is launched.
